Thanks for the suggestion to post my dmesg. I was reluctant to
dump a huge bunch of text into my very first posting to the list.
As it turns out, the entire dmesg also wasn't quite as lengthy as
I had assumed. (Also, my apology in advance if a couple of those
lines are in violation of the 72-character rule.)
