In accordance with the Policy Development Process (PDP), the Advisory Council
met on 30 April 2025.

The AC has abandoned the following Draft Policy:

*Draft Policy ARIN-2024-7: Addition of Definitions for General and Special
Purpose IP Addresses

The AC issued the following statement:

“ The advisory council has abandoned draft policy ARIN-2024-7 Addition of
Definitions for General and Special Purpose IP Addresses because this policy
has not received adequate community support.

This policy was presented at two ARIN meetings, Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, and
posted several times to PPML requesting community feedback. While there was
community input on the language the of the proposed definition, the community
did not indicate a strong desire for defining “Special Purpose” IP addresses
themselves. Community members suggested that the policy be abandoned in favor
of one that makes substantiative changes to the text of the NRPM instead. A new
proposal has recently come forward that intends to address ambiguous language
in the relevant sections of the NRMP rather than creating an umbrella
definition for all terms. Given these facts we have chosen to abandon this
policy."

Anyone dissatisfied with this decision may initiate a petition. This Petition
request must occur within seven days after the announcement date of the
Advisory Council action. The petition deadline for the rejection of 2024-7 is
12 May 2025.

The AC has rejected the following Proposal as out of scope:

*ARIN-prop-342: Require newly created AS-SETs to have hierarchical names

The AC issued the following statement:

“This proposal has been deemed outside the formal scope of ARIN’s Policy
Development Process (PDP) and has been rejected from the AC docket. This policy
proposal addresses concerns with AS-SET names and suggests implementing unique
AS-set names across all IRR databases. The proposal has been accepted into the
ARIN Consultation and Suggestion Process (ACSP) as suggestion 2025-3."

Anyone dissatisfied with this decision may initiate a petition. This Petition
request must occur within seven days after the announcement date of the
Advisory Council action. The petition deadline for the rejection of prop-342 is
12 May 2025.
