IES Releases Two New Requests for Applications to Create Scalable Solutions to Education Challenges

IES invites applications for two new grant programs for fiscal year 2025 (FY 25) through the National Center for Education Research’s Accelerate, Transform, Scale (ATS) Initiative. The ATS Initiative supports education research and development to create scalable solutions that seek to improve education outcomes for all learners and eliminate persistent achievement and attainment gaps. Programs within the ATS Initiative are informed by those sponsored by advanced research projects agencies (ARPAs) found throughout the Federal government. ARPAs leverage insights from basic and applied research to develop and scale targeted breakthrough solutions in focused areas that research or industry do not traditionally support.

The two new grant programs for FY 25 are:

Research Networks Focused on Critical Problems of Education Policy and Practice Grants Program (84.305N)

Applications are due August 15, 2024.

Through the Research Networks Focused on Critical Problems of Education Policy and Practice Grants Program, NCER invites applications for an ATS Initiative Hub. The Hub will serve as a resource center for applicants to and grantees in ATS Initiative programs, support the establishment of new ATS Initiative programs, and provide high level support to IES in coordinating existing programs that fall under the ATS Initiative.

From Seedlings to Scale Grants Program (ALN 84.305I)

Applications are due August 15, 2024.

Solving big problems requires taking big leaps. Through the From Seedlings to Scale (S2S) program, IES will invest in innovative products, policies, and processes within an identified focus area through three phases of increasing funding and time duration to support ideas as they grow from seedlings to scalable solutions. IES expects that solutions will be grounded in rigorous research and encourages applicants to draw insights from a wide range of scientific fields that includes but is not limited to the education sciences. Projects will incorporate high quality research, robust solution development, and attention to sustainability and scaling throughout all phases.

For FY 25, IES invites bold thinkers to apply for Phase One projects focused on Seamless Personalized Education Experiences Delivered at Scale (SPEED at Scale). SPEED at Scale focuses on developing innovative solutions that allow teachers to seamlessly provide personalized instruction for PreK-12 grade students.

IES will provide virtual office hours for the S2S competition.  Please see the Virtual Technical Assistance web page for additional details.
