A Note from Arnold:

For those of you only on my original list who are confused about
why I haven’t sent a monthly newsletter in a while, this is what
I’ve been doing every day. I’m sharing with you this week because
I have a bunch of big announcements, and I am thinking of merging
these lists. More and more often in these daily emails, I’m
sharing news, telling my personal stories and taking questions
every single week, with workouts and recipes and health and
fitness advice. I think you’ll love it -- but if you want out, no
hard feelings, just hit unsubscribe (

Your Invitation to the Pump App
-------------------------------

This week, we opened up the fitness app I’ve been working on with
Daniel and Adam to the small list of people who asked to be
notified immediately, and it’s up and running. This is a
soft-opening, which is why you won’t see it on my social media.
We are letting in 5,000 people and then closing the doors until
we build the next version. Click here (
https://click.convertkit-mail4.com/d0u9804q5gs0h4q2438b3/l2hehmh30vwdo7t6/aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVwdW1wLmFwcC8=
) to join and use referral code PUMP47.

Here’s a little video of what it’s all about:

(
https://click.convertkit-mail4.com/d0u9804q5gs0h4q2438b3/m2h7h5h8g0wlophm/aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9SY2VaQ1dkaTRaRQ==
)
When we planned our launch, we said we were going to sell 2,500
lifetime memberships, and app experts told us not to do that.
“You want recurring revenue,” they said. But my goal isn’t
revenue (yes, we want revenue so we can immediately build the
next version, and I like when my team makes some money), it’s
inspiring a lifetime commitment to fitness and self-improvement.
So we sold 2,500 spots. They were more popular than the yearly
subscription spots because lifetime memberships come with tickets
to next year’s Arnold Classic where we’ll do an app meet and
greet, an exclusive t-shirt, and a Zoom seminar with me that’s
only for lifetime members (and that I’ve found out recently
people charge a fortune for when I speak at their conferences).
They sold out, so I told the team to open up a thousand more,
because I listen to the people.

You guys are part of my positive corner of the internet, so I
want to include as many of you as possible. We are still closing
the doors for a few months once we hit 5,000 total members. We
already have incredible suggestions of features to add from our
members to go with our own big plans, and the goal here is
building the best fitness app of all time. The first 5,000
founding members are going to be a crucial part of building it,
but I’ve been trying to do Q&As in the app where I can get to
everyone and it’s already hard, so we can’t grow too big too
fast.

But I see in the community and on social media how much people
love their training plans and the community. This is crazy:
Daniel told me our most common customer service request is how to
upgrade from a yearly membership to lifetime (They’re still
figuring it out, but it’s a good problem to have and it shows
that we have something). So I want to make sure my village here
has an opportunity to join. There are only about 1,500 total
spots left (
https://click.convertkit-mail4.com/d0u9804q5gs0h4q2438b3/l2hehmh30vwdo7t6/aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVwdW1wLmFwcC8=
), about half of them lifetime. If you don’t make it, we’ll be
opening up a little more annual subscriptions, and adding
monthly, in a few months with version 2. But we’ll never sell the
lifetime memberships with the Zoom motivational call and
everything else again, because you can’t scale that stuff.

So get to thepump.app (
https://click.convertkit-mail4.com/d0u9804q5gs0h4q2438b3/l2hehmh30vwdo7t6/aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVwdW1wLmFwcC8=
) as soon as you can and download - PUMP47 is the secret code
that gives you access to purchase. Please don’t share the code on
social media, and please don’t be mad if you miss it this time —
we will get you in the next version.

And for those of you who are worried about money: I want you to
know this newsletter will always be free. We will always share a
weekly workout and all of the info you’re used to with zero
charge. I see these as different spokes on the same wheel. The
Pump is for people who want support, coaching, more community
interaction with me and my team, and a full program designed for
you whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been training for
10 years. It’s what I wanted in a fitness app; something to make
people stick to a plan instead of changing things up every few
weeks. It’s for when you get a taste of the love of fitness and
you want to make a real commitment. Arnold’s Pump Club is to give
you that taste; to make you fall in love with health and fitness
and add a little positivity to your day.

I’ll see some of you in The Pump (
https://click.convertkit-mail4.com/d0u9804q5gs0h4q2438b3/l2hehmh30vwdo7t6/aHR0cHM6Ly90aGVwdW1wLmFwcC8=
) later today. And I’ll see the rest of you right here tomorrow.

Member of the Week: John
------------------------

John (not his real name, but we are naming him after John Connor
because he loves Terminator) sent Adam, Daniel, and me a video
that touched our hearts a few weeks ago. He’s a veteran. His
struggle and the way he has overcome inspired all of us and gave
us the fuel to never stop this newsletter because if it can help
someone this much, how could we stop? He showed us how useful we
can really be, so we want to thank him. Now, let’s hear from
John.

What does your daily movement look like?

Before I joined the Pump Club, I was hanging on by a thread and
way too close to punching out. That was because I was listening
to the naysayer. The worst one of all lived inside my head. I
overcame that while I was in the worst shape of my life and very
close to death just by trusting my hero.

He said, “Stop thinking and just do it, no matter what.” Grace is
only half the battle. Without the action, it just means you’re
okay with standing still and, in my case, with dying. Arnold gave
me my next steps, and it became my mantra. I was in agony at that
time, but I have my life back now because of that profound and
simple mantra.

As soon as I would wake up, I’d repeat to myself. “Don’t think
just do it” over and over until I was walking down the road with
my walker. Just don’t forget to get dressed first. Rookie
mistake.

What’s your message to anyone in this village who is just
starting out?

If nothing else, I think the absolute most important ingredients
to getting started are just an expansion of what I just said.
Grace AND action. So I combined the advice of two of my greatest
heroes. Fred Rogers and Arnold Schwarzenegger (and I can’t wait
to hear this in the Terminator’s voice on the podcast). I hope it
makes you laugh.

“You’ve made this day a special day by just your being you.
There’s no person in the whole world like you, and I like you
just the way you are.”

I’ll leave you with two things to remember and two rules to
thrive from a guy who’s been through hell and knows a lot about
starting all over again.

When you are fearful, remember that you can’t be brave unless
you’re afraid first.

When you feel weak, remember that strength is not the absence of
feeling but feeling EVERYTHING and doing what must be done
anyway.

The two rules.

One. Never diminish your spirit for anyone or anything!

Two. Never quit until you die. Then get back up and keep on
pumping!!

Recipe of the week
------------------

Last week, I talked about my shrimp pasta. This one’s pretty easy
and healthy.

Here’s all you need:

* A pound of shrimp
* pasta of choice
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* Calabrian chilis
* Spinach
* artichoke hearts, quartered (cheat by using a can)
* 2-4 garlic cloves
* salt
* pepper

You can cheat this by buying Calabrian chilis in oil (for those
of you in California, Trader Joe’s has Bomba Sauce) to replace
the olive oil and Calabrian chilis. If you don’t like spicy,
leave out the chilis or go very light and just use olive oil and
garlic for the sauce.

First, combine the shrimp, olive oil, chopped garlic cloves,
Calabrian chilis, and salt and pepper in a ziploc bag. This is
where I cheat. I use my sous vide (
https://click.convertkit-mail4.com/d0u9804q5gs0h4q2438b3/dpheh0h04wr2q9sm/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cudGhlc3BydWNlZWF0cy5jb20vYmVzdC1zb3VzLXZpZGUtY29va2Vycy10by1idXktNDEwMzU1Mg==
) (I have the cheapest one), which I’ve talked about before, for
steak. I set it to 135 degrees, put the bag of shrimp and
everything else in the water, and walk away for 30 minutes.

Start boiling water with some salt for pasta. When I’m ready to
cook, I get a cast iron skillet really hot. Put your pasta in the
water because it will take longer than everything else. (Start
testing your pasta 2 minutes before the bag says it will be done
because you want it al dente, with a little snap.)

Then I dump the shrimp, garlic, olive oil mix in and sear for a
minute and remove the shrimp to a plate. (If you are skipping
sous vide, just marinade the shrimp in the bag and then cook them
until they are 140 degrees internally in the skillet).

Once the shrimp are out of the pan, I throw the spinach and
artichoke hearts in, until the spinach is wilted and the
artichoke hearts have a touch of sear. Around this time, the
pasta is done. I take ⅓ a cup of pasta water and strain the
pasta, then throw it into the cast-iron skillet with the spinach,
artichoke hearts, olive oil, garlic, Calabrian chilis mixture and
toss it. I normally add the pasta water to help it all mix, and
then the shrimp. I toss everything for a minute or two and then
plate it.

The active cooking here should be less than 15 minutes (I timed
myself). Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and pepper and serve.
