I think it did accelerate their plans slightly. Nonetheless, some Android developers are already in the suit, so now would not be too early for Google to get involved. I wouldn't want them to write a letter if they don't follow it up with action, though. But I think that lesson is good for us too. If you don't want to discuss licensing with LodSys, don't write them a letter that disagrees with them in any way, unless you are prepared to go to court right away. A letter from your lawyer stating "we've reviewed the claim and found it without merit" may just set them off.
