If you need to catch the ACTION_UP event, using a Button view is not the best approach. Use an ImageView with a state-based drawable as the background (as Kostya suggested), but you need to do your own capturing of ACTION_DOWN and ACTION_UP. I've implemented this myself, but I don't have the code handy so can't tell you how to get that ACTION_UP...all I can say is: its possible :)
