Well, it appears that the problem has something to do with the java
version under Preferences/Java/Installed JRE.

I was using 64-bit Java 1.6.0. When I switch to 64-bit java 1.5.0, the
"Generic ADT problem" disappears.

I wonder if this is a bug.
