Being new, and trying to get everything to work on a new board
looking through the commits, I am clueless what DAL is.

Searching the Web, I found [1]:

Has the goal changed? If not, could the commit message please be
revised?

Also it’s not clear to me, why 3.1.57 is left out (unstable/stable
scheme)?
