So there is a big chunk of stuff missing in libvlc compared to the gstreamer libraries, and since development of libvlc upstream at VLC is not exactly fast I wouldn't count on this any time soon. Also since the phonon-backend gstreamer is currently unmaintained I wouldn't count on anyone to write stuff for you, AFAIK there currently is only one developer in Phonon who works on Phonon 5 and the vlc backend maintenance.
