At the moment my Amanda runs are long enough that the cron amcheck mid afternoon bumps into the running amdump.

with Amanda 3.4.5, I'm getting this output in the email report:

   Amanda Tape Server Host Check
   -----------------------------
NOTE: Holding disk '/amanda3': 1975250944 KB disk space available, using
1964765184 KB
NOTE: Holding disk '/amanda4': 1719803904 KB disk space available, using
1709318144 KB
   slot 2:no drives available
   slot 3:no drives available
   slot 4:no drives available
   slot 5:no drives available
   slot 6:no drives available
   slot 7:no drives available
   ERROR: no drives available
   Server check took 2.003 seconds
   Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
   --------------------------------
Client check: 4 hosts checked in 5.356 seconds. 0 problems found.
(brought to you by Amanda 3.4.5)

Which concerns me, because it could cause a conflict resulting in the running amdump experiencing a tape error and stopping the output to the active tape.

On another server, still running 3.3.9, I get the following output from amcheck:

   Amanda Tape Server Host Check
   -----------------------------
Holding disk /amanda1: 155680768 KB disk space available, using 145195008 KB
Holding disk /amanda2: 98021376 KB disk space available, using 87535616 KB
WARNING: skipping tape test because amdump or amflush seem to be running
WARNING: if they are not, you must run amcleanup
   Server check took 0.085 seconds

   Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
   --------------------------------
Client check: 4 hosts checked in 6.981 seconds. 0 problems found.

(brought to you by Amanda 3.3.9)

That would seem to be the more appropriate behavior. I'm used to seeing that. It also serves as a warning to me on those occasions when I have run security updates on the servers with aptitude and rebooted them, forgetting that Amanda was still running that day after 5:00p.m. Among my routine checks after updates is making sure the amanda holding SSDs are mounted and that Amanda is ready to run. If I accidentally killed it, amcheck reminds me to run amcleanup.
