The latest stable Kubuntu repositories provides alsamixergui which depends on FLTK1.1. I installed it and it at least creates a GUI. I have no idea if it functions or has the bug the OP sites. I'm sure it must be available as source if someone wanted to go searching for it. Good luck, Mark
