Sometimes "crackling" is a hardware - electrical problem, such as a broken
connector or cable. What are you using to listen? headphones into the
headphone output, speakers into the speakers output, S/PDIF into a DAC? Do
you have other configurations you can try - headphones, speakers, outputs?
