I recently updated my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS systen with Skylake CPU from kernel
4.3.0 to 4.4.1 ( http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.1-wily/
https://lwn.net/Articles/674176/ ). Although everything works fine, all my
ICE-1712 (aka "Envy24") cards are no longer seen by ALSA.
Investigating further I notice the snd-ice1712.ko module previously present
in 4.3.0:
> npm@gnuport:/lib/modules/4.3.0-040300-generic/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712$ ls
> snd-ice1712.ko snd-ice1724.ko snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
Is missing for 4.4.1:
> npm@gnuport:/lib/modules/4.4.1-040401-generic/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712$ ls
> snd-ice1724.ko snd-ice17xx-ak4xxx.ko
Does this mean Linux 4.4 no longer supports popular but obsolete/old cards
like the M-Audio Delta series, Terratec DMXFire and other old PCI cards
based on the excellent ICE1712 chips? Does this mean apps like 'mudita24'
or 'envy24control' will also be deprecated/removed?
Alternately is this an omission or bug? Or are these modules for obsolete
hardware available in a separate package?
Thanks,
