I have a CMI8738 card with an optical connection to a receiver with an extra set of speakers hanging off of the analog jack. SPDIF is unmuted in alsamixer, but the best I've been able to do is sound out of the extra speakers by unmuting "In Monitor". This worked before (beautifully, I might added).
