I was testing the audio output of a motherboard that has the ALC662 rev1
chip on it. The chip says it can handle 44100, 48000, and 96000 output at
16, 20, 24, and 32 bits. I used a Sencore DA795 Digital Audio Analyzer to
verify the output. So far, I can match 16-bit audio at all rates. When I
try to match 20, 24, and 32, the readout still says '16' per channel. I'm
not sure if the DA795 can handle 32-bit data (which may result in it
thinking that the data is 16-bit), but it should read '24' per channel for
24-bit data. As a test, I installed Windows 7 on the box and confirmed
that when it is configured for 24-bit output, the DA795 sees 24-bit data.
Is this a limitation of the codec driver (snd_hda_codec_realtek) not setting
something up on the codec, or maybe something with the hda-intel devices
themselves? I'm using version 1.0.23 of driver, util, lib, etc, and can go
to 1.0.24 if that might help. Any suggestions on things to try or look at
are appreciated.
