intel core 2 quad 2.40ghz
i am not overclocking or anything like that. i even reset the bios to
fail-safe defaults and optimized defaults, but nothing will give me clear audio.
it seems the ubuntu startup music is clear too. is that the same thing as
"aplay -D .... " wherein, it is skipping the cpu and going right through alsa?
any chance upgrading to the latest nvidia drivers might solve this? i am using
the most up to date available through ubuntu packages for 10.04 lucid

Whats your CPU? maybe you have activated some outdated cpufreq option (Example,
my N330 will work with p4-clockmod, but give very bad performance)
If you play a sound using aplay, you just shove the already right formatted pcm
into the soundcard. no work for the CPU.

anyone have any ideas?
when I execute "aplay -D plug:hdmi /usr/share/shounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" or
"aplay /usr/share/shounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" the sound is crystal clear.
if i play anything else the sound quality is poor: browser, mp3, dvd, etc...
what am I missing here? is this an alsa config issue or something else? if
something else, can someone point in the right direction to research?
thanks
