Greetings alsa-user list,
Just acquired a Edirol UM-2EX, a little USB MIDI adapter with 1 input and 2
outputs, and I only seem to be able to use one of the outputs. Plugging it
into my Eee PC (Arch Linux with ALSA 1.0.20) creates /dev/midi1, to which I
can read and write with no trouble. Traffic shows up on the MIDI in and the
first MIDI out. But the second MIDI out is silent - does anyone know how I
could open it, perhaps through the ALSA library, or somehow getting a
/dev/midi2, or otherwise?
In /dev, the UM-2EX shows up as /dev/midi1 and /dev/snd/midiC1D0. In /proc,
it shows up as card1 (card0 being the Eee's internal soundcard) with a midi0
inside.
cat /proc/asound/cards shows:
1 [UM2 ]: USB-Audio - UM-2
EDIROL UM-2 at usb-0000:00:1d.0-2, full speed
And cat /proc/asound/card1/midi0 reveals two outputs:
UM-2
Output 0
Tx bytes : 0
Output 1
Tx bytes : 0
Input 0
Rx bytes : 0
Input 1
Rx bytes : 0
For comparison, I've got the UM-1EX too, the 1x1 version, and its /proc
entry reveals:
UM-1
Output 0
Tx bytes : 0
Input 0
Rx bytes : 0
So, in some sense, I know ALSA is aware of the UM-2's second output - just
have no clue how to access it.
Google, ALSA API docs, and mailing list archives haven't gotten me too far.
I did turn up this old thread (no replies, sadly) in which someone was
having the same problem with a different adapter:

Will be happy to provide the output of any other commands or tests. Does
