Sound works great on all my Linux machines. I'm Gentoo based, but I
know for a fact it works on every major distribution out there so it's
really more of a question why it isn't working for you.

You don't provide enough information for anyone to give help easily.
I'd like to see a few things to get started:

uname -a
lspci

Did you build your own kernel or are you using a packaged kernel?
Possibly your packaged kernel doesn't turn on what you need?

cd /usr/src/linux
cat .config | grep SOUND
cat .config | grep SND

If you don't have the source installed but your kernel supports it you
can get the same information from /proc/config.gz

Looking forward to changing your mind about sound on Linux.

Cheers,
Mark
