Yeah, xruns - that's the one. If your system isn't configured for low-latency work [1], you usually get a lot of them until you set big buffer. Can you test with bigger buffers?
I believe (and I would like to confirm that it's not just me) that card works perfectly on 48000 and not so great on 44100 regardless of what is set as samplerate in alsamixer. I can get 2ms on 48000 but I can't get 50ms on 44100. It's weird because this card should support both samplerates equally. However, it gets even more weird - if you use just capture or just playback at 441000 it works normally. Only duplex breaks on 44100. Yet, duplex works on 48000. If you can test this on your card I would be very grateful. Again, sorry for going off topic. I'm also sending a copy of this mail to James in hope that he will be interested to know this.
