My standard advice: try a very recent Linux Live CD not installing it on
hard drive.

If we are talking Debianish, then, for example,
SimplyMEPIS-CD_6.9.90beta6_32.iso (find mirrors on mepis.org).

All this just to make sure your chip + machine are actually supported
by ALSA.
