I have a laptop using the snd_hda_intel driver under 2.6.16. When I
first install the module, aplay works with the hardware device:
aplay -Dhw:0,0 sound.wav
plays, as many times as I try to play it. But if I ever go through dmix:
aplay -Dplug:dmix sound.wav
then I get no sound, and will never get sound again, even if I try to
go back to using the hardware device directly. The only way I can
reset it is to unload and reload the module.
Running
aplay -Dplug:hw sound.wav
plays the sound fine and does not mess up further attempts to play.
