Hi all,

I wonder if the latest macbooks (rev3) are supposed to work?

I have tried vanilla linux 2.6.21.5 and 2.6.22-rc6.

I've also downloaded the latest tree I could find from
rsync://alsa.alsa-project.org/hg, compiled alsa-driver.

I also found this awkward source, providing various documents and
drivers: ftp://209.216.61.149/pc/audio/

The linux-tarball 4.06a provides alsa-drivers "1.0.14-4.06a", which
looks somewhat more recent than the 1.0.14(?) I got from rsync.

The snd-hda-module loads with the following message:

| kernel: hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC882, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
| kernel: ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:2339: autoconfig:
line_outs=1 (0x14/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
| kernel: ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:2343:
speaker_outs=0 (0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
| kernel: ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:2347:    hp_outs=1
(0x15/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
| kernel: ALSA /usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:2355:    inputs:
mic=0x18, fmic=0x0, line=0x1a, fline=0x0, cd=0x0, aux=0x0

I get this error message with all versions. Alsamixer shows
headphone,pcm,front,line,mic,iec958 and three input sources.

With 'front' to 100%, I hear a very VERY silent output through the
headphones. I also noticed that ekiga reacts to mic input, but also
on a very low level it seems.

I have no SPDIF-equippment to test, but the iec958-switch triggers a
red light at the output.

Am I missing something? If the chip is not supported, should it not be
possible to get the chip working with a little tweaking?

Any help greatly appreciated,
Steffen
