I'll explain it for Debian/Ubuntu:

a) It will Just Work(tm) (most of the time, if udev/hotplug/discover
is installed)

b) By hand: 

First card: 
$ modprobe snd-YOURCARD
Second card: 
$ modprobe snd-YOURCARD2

c) Automatically on boot: 

Add lines with "snd-YOURCARD" to /etc/modules in the order you want
your soundcards to appear.

Look up what to put in place of "YOURCARD" in the soundcard matrix or
ask here.

It's as simple as that and documented with more words in
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/README.Debian.gz
