I have a 6 year old Gateway with an unusual SB PCI128 with an Ensoniq
1371. When I first got this computer, this mailing list was extremely
helpful to me in getting the card working (it has only a digital output
and the trick was enabling that). Anyway, after all these years, the
configuration has gotten messed up, presumably because I "upgraded" my
kernel for SUSE 10.1 via the "smart" updater. I have tried reverting,
but there is still something wrong. Here's my current situation: kernel
is 2.6.16.13-4. I tried yast2 but that is a dead end (I can give details
if desired). I looked at the ens1371 pages and install instructions on
the alsa web site.

I can do:

 modprobe snd-ens1371;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe
snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

without error but if I try alsamixer, I get:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

Where should I go from here?

I have neither /etc/modules.conf nor /etc/conf.modules. Seems to me I
read somewhere that SUSE uses a different scheme altogether, but I don't
know where to find that info.

Thanks.
