When playing music, the quality is very tinny and has a sort of downsampled distortion on it.  I lose a lot of the quality and the audio seems quite weak.  This also doubles for GAIM which when it plays it's annoying noises, they sound very rough and almost garbly.  Like a really bad WMA file.

How do I get rid of this distortion? Is there anything I can do so that all audio on my system behaves the same?

When running Linux on this machine, I've always had a problem with the quality of the audio.  Kernel version and distribution don't seem to change anything.

My motherboard is an ABit KV8-Pro.
