hi there, support for my sound chip is currently under development, which means i will have to compile new versions of alsa for testing purposes.
my question is, how do i properly upgrade to a new version of alsa? up to now i proceeded like follows. 1. i downloaded the latest version of alsa-driver, alsa-lib, alsa-kernel (regular releases or from the hg-repository). 2. i compiled alsa-lib and alsa-driver (the latter with the option for my soundcard, hda-intel) 3. i ran "modprobe snd-hda-intel model=auto" 4. i ran "/etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart" 5. tried playing a wav-file with aplay, checking alsamixer settings first. (and never heard anything because the ALC883 isn't properly supported yet, but that's a different story). - do i need to compile anew other parts of ALSA as well, when i do an upgrade (like alsa-utils, for example)? - when i'm re-loading the driver after the upgrade -- do i have to unload all the modules first (snd_hda_intel, snd_hda_codec, snd_pcm ...)? - do i need to do a system restart, or is "alsa-utils restart" enough? thanks martin ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
