Both.

An AC'97 system consists of two components, a DMA controller which reads
the audio data from the computer's memory, and a codec which converts
the digital data to analog. Your controller is integrated into the
Intel ICH6 southbridge, your codec is from Conexant.

Please show the contents of /proc/asound/cards.

The is an AC'97 specification that says how AC'97 codecs should behave,
but many Conexant chips violate this specification, and Conexant often
doesn't document their chips.
