After much experimentation, I discovered how to make my usb Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Roadie device work with KDE arts on both my desktop PC and laptop. I needed to create and add to /etc/asound.conf
pcm.turtle { type asym playback.pcm "plughw:1,0" capture.pcm "plughw:1,0" } While the sound seems fine on my desktop PC (AN8-SLI nVideo mobo and AMD 64 X2), on the laptop, the sound plays too fast and skips. Also, I wish to use the laptop for recording live music. The AN8-SLI has a full-featured sound chip built in and /etc/asound.state has a whole bunch of Controls defined that are reflected in kmix. When I run "# alsactl store 1", I get a new state, state.Audio, with a bunch of controls that don't include some of the features of the Roadie, like surround sound, which are defined for the mobo chip, state.CK804. Is this lack of features due to limitations of snd_usb_audio? What gui mixer can I use to set levels? ("$ alsamixer -c 1" works, but is clumsy.) How can I take advantage of the features of the Turtle device? Thank you for any reply. Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security?
