I wrote to the list a couple of days ago complaining about not being able to get sound from the onboard audio device of my ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 (ALi M5455). I have received testimonies from people with the same motherboard who have gotten sound to work but I thought that maybe the particular revision of the device on my motherboard may as yet be unsupported...
Still needing to get sound output, I went out and purchased an Sound Blaster Audity II 6.1 Value (SB0400) figuring that this would be well supported (every previous Creative sound card I've used --- from SB8 to SB Live! 5.1 --- has worked under Linux without fail). Well, I installed the card and layed down a clean install of Debian Sarge AMD64. The sound card was detected and the snd-emu10k1 driver was loaded. I have 2.1 speakers plugged into the front speaker jack (lime green) and as the driver loaded, I twice heard a muffled sound from the subwoofer. But, try as I might, I can't otherwise get anything to come out --- not with speaker-test, alsaplayer, or xmms. So, I'm now beginning to think that there's something wrong with my alsa configuration. I've played with the mixer settings manually to no avail and I've alsa used alsaconf to set things up but still without success. Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on? One thing which struck me as odd is the IRQ that is assigned to the audio device --- 19 or 20 depending upon whether the onboard device and USB are enabled. Could this be a problem and, if so, how would I force the audio device to be assigned an IRQ with a higher priority?
