i have the same sound hardware, and have made the same observations as bill made vis a vis the oss "volume" being equivalent to the alsa "front". what i haven't figured out how to fix is to get the gnome volume control panel app (the little one that comes up when i use the Fn keys on the laptop keyboard) to control the correct mixer channel. i've been told that the code does a raw ioctl of some sort to control the "volume" channel. clearly if not all systems have a "volume", then gnome needs to be more configurable. if anyone has other insights (or better, fixes :-), i'd like to hear them. paul =--------------------- paul fox, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (arlington, ma, where it's 53.8 degrees) ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
