Hi and welcome. I have a us224 and it's fairly working after some exchange on alsa-devel list and a couple of specific patches since 1.0.4, which I think are now available on cvs.
To my knowledge, the us428 is the big brother of us224. IIRC the driver and userland development has been almost based on the us428. One of those patches is targeted about some issues regarding whether the snd-usb-usx2y driver is built with debug support. In my case, the us224 audio playback and input monitoring only shows up when one builds alsa-driver-1.0.4 with ./configure --with-debug=full . You can check if that's your case too. > > the us428 seems to be recognized by the system, /proc/asound/cards says: > > 0 [USX2Y ]: USB US-X2Y - TASCAM US-X2Y > TASCAM US-X2Y (1604:8001 if 0 at 002/007) > > the log entries look like this: > > Apr 16 19:33:44 [kernel] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using > address 6 > Apr 16 19:33:44 [/etc/hotplug/usb/tascam_fw] load > /usr/share/alsa/firmware/usx2yloader/us428fw.ihx for 1604/8000/100 to > /proc/bus/usb/002/006 > Apr 16 19:33:45 [kernel] usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 6 > Apr 16 19:33:47 [kernel] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using > address 7 > Apr 16 19:33:47 [/etc/hotplug/usb/tascam_fpga] calling > /usr/bin/usx2yloader for /proc/bus/usb/002/007 > Apr 16 19:33:49 [/etc/hotplug/usb/tascam_fpga] starting > /usr/bin/us428control for /proc/bus/usb/002/007 > Apr 16 19:33:49 [/etc/hotplug/usb/tascam_fpga] leaving > All seems OK to me. > > calling usx2yloader manually says: > > usx2yloader: no US-X2Y-compatible cards found > > same with us428control: > > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:1 > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:2 > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:3 > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:4 > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:5 > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:6 > us428control: cannot open hwdep hw:7 > us428control: no US-X2Y-compatible cards found > > > does anybody have any clues what's going wrong? > > many thanks in advance: jan boehme. > That was one of my early pitfalls. You're not alone :) Most probably, the alsa firmware/hotplug scripts have already taken that part for you. Please check that us428control is already running (ps -ef | grep us428control).
