I never tested it with mplayer (I use it for my music laptop), but be
aware, that the Aureon USB hardware can only play at 48 kHz
samplerate. If your sources are in another rate, like the popular CD
quality 44.1 kHz, you will have to use some form of resampling in
software, either by using something like "plughw:0" as ALSA device or
in the application, mplayer in your case.

No, it means, that the Aureon USB uses the same mixer settings for all
6/2 output rsp. input channels. Think of it like a Volume knob for the
whole device.
