I recently got an old sound blaster live! It works perfectly fine, except that I have troubles playing wav files since I got it.
I don't really know how to describe this problem, since I'm not a native english speaker. I would say that wavs are playing in loop. For example, if I have a wav file saying "hello", playing it with aplay I'll hear "hello hello hello hello hello hello..." then aplay exists saying "aplay : pcm_write:1088: write error: Input/output error".
Some other programs behave slightly different. For example, the same wav file played with alsaplayer will sound like "hehehehehehehehehelololololololololololo", and I'll have to kill alsaplayer.
I experienced this kind of troubles with every program attempting to play a wav file, such as Mozilla thunderbird, gaim or Mozilla's flash plugin. I also tried to load and play a wav file in audacity : it is quite strange as I can see the cursor showing the current position in the file going to right and left alternatively during playback.
In fact only xmms and mplayer are able to play wav files normally on my system. But, except the aplay error reported above, I cannot see any error message in any system log.
I run a Mandrake Linux 9.2, kernel 2.4.22, and tried alsa 1.0.2, 1.0.3, and 1.0.4 with the same results. I'm quite new to linux and I don't know nothing about how sound cards and alsa work, so I have really no idea how to solve this problem. Thanks for your help.
