I've got a very strange problem with alsa. I am using Gentoo with kernel
version 2.6.4 and the latest alsa package (using different ones or even
using kernel 2.4.24 didn't help much). The problematic thing about my setup
is, that there are sliders in the mixer which vanish as soon as I stop
playing music but which are important for the sound quality being okayish.

When, for example, running mpg123 playing an MP3 the sound is really bad. I
then open alsamixer while mpg123 is playing and there are ~8 additional
sliders called "EMU10K1", 7 of which I switch off and the sound quality
becomes nice but as soon as mpg123 has finished, the sliders are gone and
their level is lost. The state of these sliders is even lost when xmms
finishes one song and switches over to the next one and the sound quality
without adjusting these EMU10K1 sliders is terrible no matter what output
plugin I use.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Henrik
