Hi,

I'm doing my first ever linux install on a mac (gentoo - I've asked this
question on the gentoo forums, no response) and have got as far as getting
sound working.

ALSA *appears* to be configured properly, and alsamixer shows the card. 'aplay
some.wav' seems to play the wav with no errors, and seems to try and play it
for the right length of time, - However, no sound comes out.

I'm trying to get sound out of the internal speaker. It's a silver powermac
g4. ALSA thinks the sound card is a 'tumbler'.

My kernel is latest development-sources. 2.6.3-benh2

I have everything compiled into the kernel, instead of as modules... But all
of the alsa programs are happy. (Saves on module configuration files, I
think)

"Powermac DMA support" is NOT compiled into the kernel

ALSA, Sequencer Support, Sequencer dummy client, OSS API Emu, and the Powermac
devices are built into the kernel. Everything else is switched off.

"aplay some.wav -v" reports no errors

I've played with the various settings in amixer quite a lot. Maxed and unmuted
everything... Stuff like that. It seems to make no difference.

I've also tried connecting some headphones to the headphones jack, and can't
get any noise out of those either.

Here is the output from amixer:

Simple mixer control 'Master',0

An ideas about where to look next?

Thanks,
Simon
