I would upgrade to 2.6.4 and some current ALSA.

Please make sure that you have installed the latest firmware upgrade
from Creative.

The current version of the ALSA driver doesn't support high speed USB,
so you will only get full speed output.  (The new driver will be
available in a few days.)

What does happen when you run "aplay -D plughw:1 something.wav"?
