I am trying to get alsa working on my laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook 1020C) using the via82xx alsa drivers. After about a week I've got as far as everything loads at boot time except the snd-mixer(-oss).
modprobe gives: Carnelian proc # modprobe snd-mixer modprobe: Can't locate module snd-mixer running aplay /a/file.wav works, but using sound in Gnome or any application is very disappointing as the box is completely silent. amixer and alsamixer boots and does it stuff (it seems). I've been pouring over threads on the Gentoo forums and Google for days but not getting further than this. Any suggestions? The box is a running Gentoo 2004.0. mvh/ Regards, Martin S.
