I'm another confused person with mpu-401 stuff:
I tried to connect my keyboard with the midi port of my soundcard (via = 8233 chipset).
But neihter rosegarden or pmidi recognizes something apart from = fluidsynth.
Two suggestions:
1. PLEASE turn off HTML in your messages.
2. Insert this line in /etc/modules.conf:options snd-via82xx mpu_port=0x330
I found that my MIDI input worked perfectly in earlier versions of ALSA using the via82xx driver without that line; however, moving to 0.9.8 stopped MIDI input until I added that line. You will need to check in your BIOS settings that the MIDI input port is at address 0x330, or at least see what addres it is at and insert the appropriate information in the 'options...' line above.
