Arts supports ALSA output - although it doesn't seem that it is possible
to specify any alternative device, it just sends to default. It works
nicely when default is just plug:spdif but when default is dmix which
uses spdif for output it croaks.

I know that sound will be mixed twice, but that only goes for programs
that can only use arts (such as noatun and juk). All programs that
support ALSA I will setup to use ALSA instead of Arts. Programs such as
mplayer.
