Hello Alain,

        Thanks for your reply.

I guess I don't quite understand. In 'VX Control' (macosx) while using
the mic input there is a 'Digital Gain' control from infinity to 18db.
Is that the equivalent of the 'Mic" control in alsa?

Then with 'VX Control' in macosx there is a 'Preamplifier Gain' control
that goes from +30db to +51db. Is it not yet implemented in alsa? In
the source there seem to references to it, but I can't understand it
enough to know if it is.

I can hear it. Or do you mean that the 'Monitor' control should effect
the recording level? I've tried with everything on and 100% and looking
at the waveform the level is low. The only control that seems to have
any effect is 'Mic'.

In macosx at a normal speaking level I can easily drive the recorded
level into clipping. With alsa and linux I have to shout to get near
there.

Not that I want to cause clipping, but I need to record some low level
sound like water dripping. Without adding an external preamp it won't
work.

Thanks again for your help,

digger
