In theory, use device name "surround51" in your application, e.g.: aplay -Dsurround51 sixchannels.wav > Can this particular device be used as more independent stere devices ? Your hardware doesn't support this. It is possible to emulate three stereo devices with the dshare plugin, but this works only for applications using ALSA (not OSS), and it isn't documented.
