FIrst, thank you for the quick reply. I have checked lsmod and it does appear that everything is loaded. Also, I check /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer and they are world readable/writeable. I am using the OSS API layer and my mixer and sound work perfectly under KDE except for when I use the speaker out jack (laptop with internal speakers work fine). What I am attempting to do is make sure that the headphone jack is unmuted. I found this tasty snippet: amixer -c 0 sset Headphone,0 55 unmute that I would like to try. Unfortunately I can't get amixer, alsamixer, or alsactl to work.
You can check the modules are really loaded by doing lsmod. I'd say make sure all the important dev nodes (dsp, mixer etc.) are there and you have write access to them
Could this be because I am using the 2.6.2 alsa drivers and the current alsa libraries and utilities?
Anyway, I have looked through this list and I have seen others with problems like mine. Hopefully someone will figure out what I have screwed up and post it.
Thanks again.
