I did built the modules for 2.6.1 and for 2.6.2-rc3 using the alsa-kernel and alsa-driver directories from CVS. Just make sure to follow the directions in INSTALL like running the autoconf chain and then ./configure --with-kernel=/path/to/kernel/ This gave no further problems. I used the alsa-firmeware packages 1.0.2, but for midi on the US-122 you should use current CVS.
