Mono input, but stereo output. Instead of a pan control envy24control
seems to encourage you to set the amount of each input you want in each
output. 

I set odd tracks to 100% on the left and 0% on the right. I Set even
tracks to 0% on the left and 100% on the right.

Maybe I'm not using it right, but I think it's designed to assume either
mono or stereo inputs and gives you some flexibility on how to pan them.

That's essentially what I'm doing, but I just did it with volumes and
not the mute.

Not sure where you were looking, but analog volumes I set to 100%. (I'm
using the Audiophile 2496 though...
