same thing for me I just recognized. I cant do arecord and aplay at the same time....though my errors are slightly different: start arecord, then aplay: ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:920:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to initialize sum ring buffer aplay: main:502: audio open error: Invalid argument ** start aplay, then arecord: ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:193:(make_local_socket) connect failed: No such file or directory ALSA lib pcm_dsnoop.c:590:(snd_pcm_dsnoop_open) unable to connect client arecord: main:502: audio open error: No such file or directory (notice: aplay exits with a differnt error message, but arecord has the same as stephen had). Also note: Multiple arecords OR multiple aplays work fine, only when trying to use both at the same time is when it brakes. Some specs: using alsa 1.0.2, on a emu10k1 chipset.
