thanks for clearing this up. I have to say that even with properly compiled 
ALSA packages (version 1.0.2) I have still the same problems with mplayer. 
That was the reason why I ask alsa-users mailing list for help, I thought 
that it is the reason of problems. But it is obvious it isn't the reason. Ok, 
at least I have eliminated one thing.

P.S. 0 the problems with mplayer and my Audigy2 are of following type:

alsa-control: mixer attach  error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib control.c:654:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL
