Hello all,

I've got a M-Audio Delta 410 i'm trying to pull digital input from. The source is my other computer, an nVidia nForce motherboard with spdif output linked to the MAudio.

I can get stereo sound, which although garbled is i believe purely a problem with the extremely low grade cable and connectors.

However I really need 5.1 surround sound. The nforce has an option to output Dolby Digital sound. I believe this is vaguely synonymous with AC3, although I definately am not sure about this one.

Eithe way, when I have the motherboard output dolby digital, the m-audio starts blasting static. even playing with mixing controls, i cannot stop the static.

i've been googling around while compiling for the past couple days and have found suprisingly little aside from Andy of Alsaplayer fame with a quick post here: http://eca.cx/lad/2000/Mar/0396.html. This is for encoding, but at least it gives me the frame contents, not that i'm quite psycho enough to make my own decoder.

The maudio supports onboard clocks of up to 96khz spdif. it also has an option for spdif-in clock, but that option is extremely garbled- possibly just doubling the interference of this jury rigged cable i've been using.

Is there any way to get my 5.1 from digital input? :'( thanks matt
