since my ice1712 based card is kinda problematic (dropouts) and it seems
like this is not going to be fixed soon, I am looking for alternatives.
First thing that comes to mind: use a cheap soundcard with crappy analog
parts that has digitan in and out and then connect a good external da/ad
converter to it.

question 1: is this a good idea and will this lead to the excellent
recording quality I want to achieve?

question 2: what are cheap soundcards that work without problems in alsa
(e.g. without dropouts) and that have digital in and out?

question 3: any recommendable high quality external da/ad converters?
how much would I have to pay for one of these to get recording/playback
quality that is comparable to the Terratec EWX 24/96 card? (24 bit,
96kHz, or so it claims. I am only using it up to 16 bit/48 kHz, but
still the sound quality is far superiour to what I was used to from
other cards)

thanx for any answers
