The ALSA drivers in the 2.6 kernel aren't 1.0.1 (see
/proc/asound/version).

You can either use the appropriate version of the alsa-lib/utils
packages, or you can disable the ALSA drivers in the kernel config and
compile the alsa-driver-1.0.1 package separately.
