Do you hear these clicks from XMMS? The ALSA that comes with Mandrake 9.2 (0.9.6?) generates clean audio output with my Realtek ALC650 rev 3 chip (intel8x0 driver), but when I upgraded to ALSA 1.0.1, I also now hear these same faint clicks, very much like a small scratch on a 78rpm record. HOWEVER, when using the OSS emulation layer, there are no popping sounds!
Are you hearing this with XMMS? If so, the problem might be with the ALSA output plugin. I say this just because of eliminating other factors: ALSA 0.9.6 / XMMS via ALSA : no problem ALSA 0.9.6 / XMMS via OSS : no problem ALSA 1.0.1 / AlsaPlayer via ALSA : no problem ALSA 1.0.1 / XMMS via OSS : no problem ALSA 1.0.1 / XMMS via ALSA : PROBLEM There could be something in the way that the XMMS plugin for ALSA works with ALSA 0.9.6 that has changed in later ALSA releases, and now the plugin is not behaving. If you are using XMMS and hearing these popping sounds, get a copy of AlsaPlayer (or another ALSA-ready player) and report what you hear! Thanks, John Original message: From: Rohan Parkes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Popping sound using Audigy/RedHat 9 2004-01-10 17:59 I'm using the Planet-CCRMA distribution, with an Audigy 1 and RedHat 9. Lately, there's been a faint popping sound in the speakers every few seconds, which, of course renders audio unusable. I can't be sure when it started happening. I upgraded to an NVIDIA 5600 card a while back. I thought for a while that it might have been just interference from a line-in input, but it isn't. I really don't know how to diagnose this.
